The Pet Portal won Best of Innovation award at CES in February 2021. It also was given recognition by many other outlets.

INITIAL RESEARCH

We began our project by surveying and interviewing pet owners

 

So why do most pet owners not own a pet door?

 

HOW CAN A DOOR BE OPENED REMOTELY?

We ideated on many ways that a door can be opened remotely. Some of these ideas included a linear actuator, a wheel, and a hidden, integrated door.

WORKING PROTOTYPES

We made an initial and final working prototype of the integrated, hidden door concept - a smart pet door.

THE APP

We designed an app that allows the user to control the door remotely as well as track their dog over time. The official app for Chamberlain’s Pet Door is part of their MyQ app which includes many components of our original prototype.
